The Leuven Institute for Research on Information Systems (LIRIS) at KU Leuven has a standing tradition in conducting research on fundamental issues of information systems in organizations (dealing with concepts, models, generic methods, tools and techniques), applied research (relating general research results to specific problems and application areas), and research on the use and implications of information systems throughout society. For this research project LIRIS is teaming up with the Information Systems Management team of Vlerick Business School, which prides itself on its expertise in conducting research for business and society in the areas of digital strategy, IT governance, business and IT alignment, and business process management.
Project
We are looking for a full-time PhD researcher to conduct research in the field of “business and IT alignment”. This research should lead to a PhD-degree.
The research will be conducted under a research grant from the VDAB Research Chair at KU Leuven, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Stijn Viaene. It concerns the topic of “Innovating public employment service - Making a digital ecosystem work”. VDAB is the public employment service for the Flemish region (Flanders).
You are expected to work closely with VDAB for conducting research that is both relevant and rigorous.
You are also expected to participate in academic seminars and conferences, and to enroll in the PhD program of the Faculty of Business and Economics at KU Leuven.
You are expected to regularly produce write-ups of your work in the form of research reports and academic publications.
You can also be asked to give guidance to students (e.g., by supervising their master’s thesis) and to supervise exams.

Profile
Candidates preferably have a Masters degree in Commercial Engineering in Management Informatics, Information Management or Business Administration (MBA).
Candidates have a strong, natural interest in understanding how to create organizational and societal value with information systems.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are important.
Excellent (honors-level) results in prior studies are required.
Candidates master Dutch and are fluent in spoken and written English.
Students currently in the final year of their Masters are certainly encouraged to apply.
Offer
We offer fulltime employment as a doctoral scholar for 1 year, starting 1 December 2013 , renewable till max. 4 years after positive evaluation.
