The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) signed an agreement in 2013 to support the training of Greek Experimental and Theoretical Particle Physics doctorate candidate students at CERN.
Candidates shall submit their applications directly to IKY Selection. The selection of candidates shall be made by a CERN-IKY Committee, composed of representatives from CERN and Greece and which will meet twice per year. Selected candidates may be required to undergo an interview with their potential supervisor at CERN, whose agreement for the selection is required before confirmation of position is issued.
Integration in CERN and Payment modalities
The level of allowances to be paid to each Student shall be those of the corresponding official CERN Programmes for Students. At CERN, selected Students shall have the status of Trainee, as defined in the CERN Staff Rules and Regulations. The Students shall be paid monthly by IKY, according to IKY's rules and regulations governing scholarships for study abroad.
Duration of stay
The maximum length of stay at CERN of each Student shall be twelve months
Social insurance cover and health insurance
There shall at all times during the student's association with CERN be insurance cover against illness (including maternity) and accidents, whether professional or non-professional, for the Student and the accompanying members of his/her family, valid in Switzerland and France, and against disability and death resulting from professional or non-professional illness and accidents of the Student.
The home institution or IKY shall be liable to CERN for any cost or expense resulting from the situation where any part of such insurance cover is not in place.
