Τίτλος: PhD Position in Plant Ecology and Sustainable Landuse
For a joint project with Grassland Sciences of ETH Zurich and the Grassland Group at Agroscope Reckenholz-Tänikon Research Station ART, Prof. Ansgar Kahmen of Universität Basel is offering a PhD Position in Plant Ecology and Sustainable Landuse.
We are looking for a dynamic, reliable and motivated PhD student with M.Sc./Diploma in plant ecophysiology, ecology, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences or related disciplines to join the Sustainable Landuse Group at the University of Basel (Prof. Kahmen). The candidate will work in the context of a Marie Curie IDP Bridges project. The objective of the project is to test the interaction of phenology and drought in temperate grasslands. Specifically, the project will determine how drought events occurring at different times of the growing season affect the productivity, ecology and and fodder quality of different European grasslands species. In a large experiment in the vicinity of Zurich we will simulate drought events will in temperate grasslands at different times of the year using specifically designed rainout shelters. The experiment will help to understand how anticipated changes in precipitation will affect ecosystem goods and services in key European agroecosystems. It is embedded in the context of climate change and sustainable management of agroecosystems.
Potential candidates should have experiences and skills in working with field experiments, ecophysiological measurements as well as statistical skills for data analysis are highly beneficial. Driving license is required. The candidate will be hosted by the University of Basel and will closely collaborate with the Grassland Sciences at ETH Zurich (Prof. Buchmann) and the Grassland Group at Agroscope Reckenholz-Tänikon Research Station ART (Prof. Lüscher). Teamwork within group and with project partners requires English and German language skills. The work will include a secondment for 5.5 months at the Agricultural Research Station ART Reckenholz, Zurich, Switzerland.
